Can we use credits from our unpaid internships and volunteer jobs in order to pay off our student loan debt? TimeDebt is in the process of developing a network of partnering organizations and student debtors/unpaid laborers that represent this endless struggle.
hey sallie is a project attempting to barter down our student loan debt with Sallie Mae. We are offering her our skills and services in exchange for lower monthly payments, lower interest rates, and/or debt relief. We are also open to any empathetic solution she may suggest to help those of us who graduated into this horrifying economy.
Working as a one-month Project Assistant with the Sattya Media Arts Collective based in Kathmandu, Nepal, we built a vertical garden out of recycled bamboo, tires, plants, and soil; screened documentary films for the public; and shared delicious meals, hikes, and talks. This relationship is being continued through the start of an international print newspaper exploring art around the world.
I AM SELF is a compilation of stories written from the honest and vulnerable perspective of the WORK intern. 250 booklets were thoughtfully crafted and distributed among the plethora of culturally diverse neighborhoods in NYC. Inside each booklet the audience is encouraged to share their self by submitting to the WORK website. This project is an attempt at cultivating an honest open environment where true dialogue and exchange can occur. We believe that the way to make our communities better spaces to exist in is to learn to listen to each other and share ideas. Click the image to read the juicy innards!
Chocolate chip cookies were exchanged for conversations with strangers as part of an exhibition called People Building Better Cities in Chennai, India. The project was rooted in the cultural humane exchange of our personal histories. In collaboration with the Urban Design Collective.
Food was salvaged from the dumpsters of Brooklyn and transformed into a three-course meal by chef, Dan Salva. The backyard was carved into a romantic restaurant complete with homemade tables, candles, chairs (most of them) and menus. Twenty random guests were invited to dine and experience the wonders of "waste" free of charge. The food, service, and ambiance offered a five star quality dining experience.
The WORK Workshop brought the public together over three days to conceptualize, design, and build a large farmhouse style wooden table out of old scrap wood donated by Built It Green NYC. The guiding thesis over the three days was, "what is work?"
